The shoemaker from Marebbe and the dwarfs
How long? Will the wait be endless?
He went home and told his wife of this peculiar event. She peered at him, wondering whether he had had one too many at the local inn, and suggested he’d spend the night in his workshop to shed some light on what had happened.
Good old Toni was not so courageous, however, and once the clock had struck midnight, he ran out of his workshop, full of fear and terror. Nothing strange had happened, in fact, but the shoemaker had had visions of witches, ghosts and other creatures. Luckily, his wife had a bold nature and had hidden behind the stove. All was silent, but at one point, she heard the door creaking and in came two dwarfs, holding a lantern. They sat at the table, took hammer and nails and got working zealously. The pair was struck by them and decided to leave two pretty garments on the desk, for them to wear.
The two dwarfs came back again the following night. They took the small garments, wore them, crafted a new pair of shoes, but never returned to the workshop of Toni, the shoemaker of Marebbe.
