Luge: a South Tyrol history

Luge: a South Tyrol history

Otto Bachmann. How many times have you seen this surname, written in capital letters, promoting the business of the former world luge champion?

His shiny yellow trademark luges are a feast for the eyes and a pleasure to ride.

Avalanches!

Avalanches!

Do not be scared!  You are most probably planning your stay at Ciasa Salares, or are enjoying it right now, and may well not want to be bombarded with frightening information about your safety… but this is important.

Christmas – not only decorations

Christmas – not only decorations

Christmas is upon us and we all sense that cheerful feeling of joy, redemption, happiness, the warmth of our family, the pleasure of savouring and sharing good food.

We can choose to delve into the world of decorations, buying Christmas presents and frantically writing Christmas cards, but we may also use this chance to explore new opportunities, chiefly winter sports such as cross country skiing, alpine skiing or snowshoeing.

The "Gran Bracun"

The "Gran Bracun"

The heroic compatriot Francësch Wilhelm de Brach, known as the Gran Bracun, is quite famous in the Val Badia. The courageous young man from Marebbe acquired celebrity in the Crusaded in the Holy Land, but his boldest and most important deed took place in his native valley. Once upon a time, a ferocious dragon lived at the foot of the Sasso della Croce: this ferocious creature was always extremely hungry and devoured any human being or animal he found on his path. The lands around there started to clear out and so, since this terrible demon could not find anything more to eat, he started moving down the valley. The houses themselves offered no safe shelter from this evil being, so gloom and despair were thoroughly widespread around the region.

How long will we have to wait until the snow colours mountain peaks with ivory white and glistens and sparkles under the sun rays? How long until we can ski up and down the valleys, with that wonderful feeling of joy painted all over our faces?

Dressing for the season - The Layering System

Autumn is here, the leaves are changing, the woods are inflamed with red and burgundy colours, the light is softer, the days are shorter… and colder.

Ski-touring, skialp, Ski-Touren

Ski-touring, skialp, Ski-Touren

The Mezzalama Trophy, the “Marathon of the Glaciers”, takes place on 25 April this year. It is an extremely testing competition and, for its 20th anniversary, the route has been reversed, starting in Gressoney la Trinité and ending in Breuil Cervinia. It is a ski-touring route which epitomises a return to ancient traditions.

Well begun is half done

Well begun is half done

It’s winter, snow is the talk of the day. We all dream of sliding down snowy slopes, but how do we safely do that? All you need is the right pair of skis.

There are almost countless models on the market, but their definitions are not always clear. Let’s shed some light.
